Question:
Suppose that a data warehouse, University Hospital, consists of the three dimensions time, doctor and patient and two measures: charge and count. Draw a schema diagram for the above data warehouse using Star schema.

Answer:


Dimensions:
i. Patient - There are details such as health description, admitted and discharge dates, patient's
personal details and identity number indicating all information and conditions of
the patient.
ii.Doctor - Number of patients being supervised by each doctor is recorded so that estimation of
of sufficient doctors can be done.
ii. Time - There are different calculations of the timing such as how many hours that an
operation needs,how many patients admitted into hospital in a week and so forth.

Attribute Doctor

Doctor_id: Uniquely identify the doctor
Gender: some patient may prefer to do medical checkup based on the doctor’s gender
Address_d and Contact Number: doctors’ address and contact number are important as to contact with them for emergency case.
Department: describe the doctors’ department.
Specialization: describe the doctors’ specialization.

Attribute Patient

Patient_id: Uniquely identify the patient.
Name: identify the patient with name.
Gender: identify the patients’ gender as important for some medical checkup.
Address_p and Contact Number: patient’ address and contact number are important as to contact with them for emergency case.
Diagnosis: To keep record of their illness or health description.
Allergies: To keep record as remark on what medicine the patient allergy to.


Attribute Time

Day, Month, Year: to keep a record on when the patient come for consultation.
Admitted time, Discharged time: to keep a record for patient who need to be hospitalized.
